NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has arrested the kingpin of a gang involved in uprooting ATMs in Delhi-NCR. The 27-year-old accused, along with his Mewat-based gang members, had recently uprooted an ATM from Rajokri in south Delhi. The accused, identified as Arshad Khan, was nabbed after a brief exchange of fire near southwest Delhi’s Nangal Dewat on Sunday evening.
Khan had last week cut open the ATM of Allahabad Bank and decamped with the cash box.
“A team led by inspector Shiv Kumar received information that the accused involved in uprooting ATMs would be coming to the capital to do a recce. A trap was laid and the accused was intercepted. He fired four rounds at the police team. In retaliation, the cops fired back and the accused sustained a bullet injury on his leg,” said a police officer.

Khan told police that he, along with his associates identified as Wasim, Kalmu, Chhotu and his brother-in-law Junnad, had stolen a mini truck from Vasant Kunj and then uprooted the ATM from Rajokri. The gang had earlier uprooted another ATM in Badarpur.
