Erode: Man, 25, buried alive while digging 10-ft pit

ERODE: A 25-year-old man died after earth caved in while digging a pit for sewer system in Erode on Thursday.
S Anand, 24, of Lakkapuram in Erode, was a contract worker with the Erode municipal corporation. Anand was digging up a 10-ft deep pit at Marapalam. “A portion of the soil caved in suddenly, Anand got trapped under it in the pit,” Surampatty police inspector S Manikandan said.
Fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot and retrieved the body after two hours of struggle.“Doctors at the spot confirmed that Anand was dead,” the inspector added. The body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem. The Surampatty police have registered a case and initiated inquiry.
