Work on Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor gathers pace

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) executing Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System on Wednesday kickstarted the pier foundation work at Asalat Nagar in Modinagar and Shatabdi Nagar in Meerut under package 3 works.

GHAZIABAD: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) executing Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System on Wednesday kickstarted the pier foundation work at Asalat Nagar in Modinagar and Shatabdi Nagar in Meerut under package 3 works.
This assumes importance as the NCRTC has managed to start most important aspect of its work two months after lockdown was lifted and construction was allowed. The corporation is simultaneously working on 17Km priority stretch from Sahibabad to Duhai and all along the alignment 100 pile foundations have been laid and work on piers and viaduct has commenced.
“The construction ban due to lockdown had resulted in stoppage of work on RRTS corridor which we resumed two months ago and since the we are pacing up our work under some labour constraints” said Sudhir Sharma, CPRO, NCRTC.

“While work on 17 Km priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai have been going on it was under 33Km stretch of corridor which comes under package 3 we have now ready to start pier foundation work as we have wrapped up work like shifting of high tension wire and other civil work which is actually marks the commencement of most important work” added Sharma.
This package is 33 km long from Duhai to Shatabdi Nagar and L&T is constructing the elevated viaduct from Duhai (EPE) to Modi Nagar North with 2 elevated stations, Murad Nagar & Modi Nagar South.
A total of 23 EHT lines infringing the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor have already been shifted or modified so far while road widening and utility diversion work are underway between Duhai to Modipuram.
Country’s first regional rail - Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is one of the three RRTS corridors prioritized for implementation. The 82 km long corridor will have 24 stations including two depots at Duhai and Modipuram and the distance will be covered in less than one hour.
