PANAJI: BJP spokesperson Premanand Mahambre on Wednesday filed a complaint with the assembly speaker and Porvorim police alleging that he was heckled by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte in the assembly complex for addressing a press conference earlier in the day against the Independent MLA.
Addressing a hurriedly-called press conference late evening, BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade demanded necessary action against Khaunte.

Mahambre, who had addressed a press conference earlier in the day making allegations against Khaunte, said that the Independent MLA, on seeing him in the corridors of the assembly complex after the day’s proceedings were over, got into an altercation with him. “I went and briefed the chief minister who advised me to file a complaint,” Mahambre said.
Mahambre said at a press conference he had tried to “expose the double standards of Khaunte” who has been active in the opposition during the ongoing budget session.
Tanavade said party workers in the Porvorim constituency were at the receiving end when Khaunte was minister for revenue and IT. He indicated that the party couldn’t do much in the past as it didn’t have the numbers and was dependent on allies to run the government.
While Tanavade said Khaunte is frustrated as he is out of power, the Porvorim MLA said BJP is frustrated as he and other opposition members had exposed the BJP government on various issues, including the mismanagement of the state’s finances. “These are the old tactics of the BJP to level false allegations against opponents and to pressurise them into silence,” Khaunte said
