Delhi-NCR: Air ‘poor’, fog likely today

The air quality index shot up to 266 on Wednesday from 231 on Tuesday and remained in the ‘poor’ level. Even though theair quality index (AQI) was in the ‘moderate’ levels since February, the quality deteriorated to the ‘poor’ levels on Tuesday and worsened further on Wednesday owing to low wind speed.

GURUGRAM: The air quality index shot up to 266 on Wednesday from 231 on Tuesday and remained in the ‘poor’ level. Even though theair quality index (AQI) was in the ‘moderate’ levels since February, the quality deteriorated to the ‘poor’ levels on Tuesday and worsened further on Wednesday owing to low wind speed.
The air quality also deteriorated to ‘very poor’ and ‘poor’ levels in other cities of Delhi-NCR.
On Wednesday, Delhi recorded AQI at 312 (very poor), Ghaziabad at 328 (very poor), Greater Noida at 303 (very poor), Faridabad at 270 (poor) and Noida at 311 (very poor). According to the Met Department, the maximum and minimum temperatures may remain the same. “There is a forecast of shallow fog on Thursday. While the maximum temperature is expected to be at 22°C, the minimum is likely to be at 7°C,” said a Met official.
The maximum temperature that was recorded at 21°C on Tuesday remained at 21°C on Wednesday. The minimum temperature, on the other hand, was recorded at 7°C, one notch above that was recorded on Tuesday.
According to the IMD forecast, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover between 22 and 7°C. The air quality might improve to moderate on Wednesday. According to the SAFAR forecast, the AQI is likely to improve, but may stay in the ‘poor’ levels between 226 (poor) and 239 (poor) in the next 48 hours.
