GURUGRAM: Forty MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) workers who worked on the beautification of the Iqbalpur pond site at Farrukhnagar in the Gurugram district of Haryana have planted 400 saplings in an area of 2.5 acres.
Out of these 40 workers, 32 happened to be women. The women said that they feel “empowered”, because they have received an opportunity to “work and earn” their living with dignity during these difficult times post lockdown following Covoid-19.

While working on the site, they kept their faces covered with veils/dupattas all the time even as the temperature was above 40 degrees C in the afternoon.
The women religiously followed the social distancing norms during the plantation. The dedication of these women to beautify the pond (Johad) that is considered an identity of the villages in Haryana was appreciated by all.
