KURUKSHETRA: Members of Jan Sangharsh Manch, Haryana, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sarv Karamchari Sangh, Haryana, and some students bodies, including the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Punjab Student Organisation, Chhatra Ekta Manch, Pragtisheel Yuva Manch and others held a joint ‘communal harmony march’ against the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) here on Thursday.

The protest march was organised on the martyrdom anniversary of Ramprasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Rajendra Lahiri and Roshan Singh, who were involved in Kakori train robbery and were hanged on December 19 in 1927. The protesters said the day had been selected to remember the message of communal harmony spread with the martyrdom of the freedom fighters associated with the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. A gathering of around 100 persons held the march from Jat Dharamshala to B R Ambedkar Chowk.
Kurukshetra SP Astha Modi said, “The march was jointly held by several bodies, which remained entirely peaceful and we have not made any arrests or detention during the march.”
“To give the message of communal harmony we held this march against the CAA and NRC on the anniversary of martyrs of the Kakori incident. They were from different communities and had sacrificed their lives to unite India. An Act on the grounds of religion is against the idea of united India,” president of Haryana SFI Suman said.
“The BJP government wants to establish Hindu rashtriya and they are moving forward towards their aim, which is against the Constitution. In India, people of all the religion are living freely, but these new rules are against the minorities. They have power in their hands and instead of working on the actual issues of economy, education, health services, the government is disturbing the harmony of the country,” Bhim Singh Saini, Kurukshetra district secretary of CPI (M), said.
