GURUGRAM: A resident of Sector 10A has been booked for allegedly posing as a land owner to claim a prime property in the city. The original owner of the land is an NRI who lives in London.
A case was registered against impersonator Rajesh Yadav and some unknown persons for trying to con Vikram Bahl. Yadav, according to the complaint, tried to pose as Bahl before HSVP officials to claim the plot.
However, his attempts were foiled the real owner surfaced, resulting in a court-ordered SIT that will now probe if HSVP officials were involved in the con.
The case was registered at Sector 14 police station under sections 419, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of IPC. TOI had published a report on January 18, highlighting how he used every trick in the book to claim the property by posing as Bahl and then filing a petition before the high court.
Yadav had earlier filed an RTI application using his original identity to get details of the plot in Sector 43. After collecting the details, he posed as land owner Bahl and went to HC seeking an alternative plot as the size of the land allotted by HSVP was different from what the original owner had applied for. Bahl realised that he was conned after HSVP had sent an e-mail asking him to explain his grievances in person. Bahl, who was in London, informed HSVP and also the HC that he had not filed any petition. He requested HSVP to cancel the cheque of excess payment as after receiving a notice from HC, HSVP in March 2018 had refunded Rs 68.69 lakh (Rs 23.80 lakh + 7% interest per annum) to Bahl. Following this, HSVP withheld the cheque.
The bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court comprising Justice Rajan Gupta and Justice Karamjit Singh in its order on January 16 had directed the police to register FIR and ordered a detailed investigation. The police have been asked to file a status report by February 27.
“The matter was investigated by the economic offence wing, and now a case has been registered on the direction of the court,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
