Delhi man stalks woman from Noida to Gurgaon, stabs her
Gurgaon: A 23-year-old man, who had been allegedly stalking a woman since their college days, stabbed her in front of her husband and in-laws at their house in Gurgaon on Monday, weeks after he learnt that she had got married. The woman has been admitted to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.
The accused, Vivek Kumar, a resident of Kondli in Delhi, later tried to jump from the terrace of a neighbour’s house, police said.
He injured his leg in the process, lost consciousness and was arrested. He was later granted bail.
A few weeks before the lockdown in March, Vivek had come to know that the woman had married a private firm employee from Gurgaon. As he did not have her new address and had no way of contacting her, Vivek frantically looked for her in Gurgaon over the next few days. When the lockdown was enforced, his search was disrupted.
Before getting married in Gurgaon, the woman used to live with her parents on the Noida side of Khoda Colony. Vivek, a second-year M.Com student of a Delhi University college, had this address. On Raksha Bandhan on Monday, he was certain that she would come to Noida to tie rakhi to her brother. Not wanting to miss an opportunity to see her, Vivek reached the area early on Monday and waited.
The woman did come to visit her family, but was accompanied by her husband. In the evening, when the couple began their journey back to their house in Gurgaon, Vivek followed them.
Around 9.10pm, Vivek rang the doorbell at the woman’s in-laws’ house in Rajeev Nagar. Her mother-in-law answered and Vivek entered the house, identifying himself as a friend of the woman’s and asking if he could meet her.
“He said he was from Delhi and wanted to meet my daughter-in-law. As soon as she came out of her room, the man whipped out a
knife from his pocket and stabbed her in the head and face,” the mother-in-law said.
When the father-in-law tried to save the woman, Vivek attacked him as well, injuring him in the hands and legs. As the family shouted for help, the accused rushed out of the house, scaled up the wall of another building and tried to jump from the roof. He, however, injured his leg and lost consciousness. A team from the Sector 14 police station nabbed him.
The woman and her father-in-law were rushed to a hospital. While he was discharged after first aid, she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Vivek had been stalking the woman for the past few years. Both of them studied in the same college. He had proposed to her a few times, but she had turned him down.
Police said the attack was planned because Vivek had been carrying a knife in his pocket. He is also believed to have chalked out the escape route before entering the house. “The accused had planned the attack and had come prepared. He had a knife in his pocket and attacked the woman as soon as she came in front of him,” said Trilok Chand, an assistant sub-inspector at Sector 14 police station who is investigating the case.
On the basis of a complaint by her father-in-law, Vivek was booked under IPC sections 323 (causing hurt), 324 (stabbing), 452 (house trespass) and 506 (criminal intimidation). He was released on bail.
