AMBALA: Heavy rain for about one hour unearthed the preparations of Ambala civic bodies and city roads got flooded and waterlogged causing inconvenience to the residents and shopkeepers on Tuesday.
A bike-borne couple with a child in their lap got stuck at a railway underpass near Inco Chowk in the city, as their bike stopped due to waterlogging.
The situation was the same on National Highway (NH) 44 in front of Vita Milk Bar in Baldev Nagar area as the rain flooded the road and commuters had to struggle.

A shopkeeper in Ambala City area said, "Every year we have to struggle through this situation and due to waterlogging on road, the people fear coming out of their houses and we are sitting workless. It just rained heavily for about 40 minutes only".
Another shopkeeper said, "The drainages are clogged and not being cleaned on time. If they were cleaned then the water would not have logged on the streets".
A commuter said, "I am living in Ambala from past about 20 years and witnessing this situation every year. It is the negligence of civic body officials that despite so much of development all over, why they are not successful in tackling the waterlogging problem in the city".

The main road leading to Sector 9 in Ambala City was also waterlogged and people did not commute due to potholes.
The road leading to Jagadhri Gate from Arya Chowk in the city was also waterlogged.
Ambala City Municipal Corporation (MC) commissioner Parth Gupta said, "In Ambala, the situation has improved as compared to the last year. We had started cleaning the drainages in advance and on Tuesday, it rained very heavily due to which the city rods witnessed waterlogging. But it receded with time except at the railway underpass near Inco Chowk and some sectors of the city. All nine pumps were functional to drain out the water. The portion of service road near Kalka Chowk on NH-44 is maintained by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI)".
The officials of NHAI could not be contacted.
