AMBALA: The Ambala police on Saturday arrested two accused of their alleged role in attempting to break open an ATM machine of
Bank of Baroda (BOB) on Hisar road near
Manav Chowk in
Ambala City during the early hours on Saturday.
Arrested accused have been identified as
Parveen Kumar and
Pardeep Kumar of Parshuram Nagar, Ambala City and they would be presented before a duty magistrate on Sunday, told Ambala City police station house officer (SHO), inspector Ram Kumar.
Security system failed the robbersOn Saturday, during the early hours, the BOB head office officials received an emergency alert from this ATM booth that someone is attempting to break and open the machine. Following they alerted the Ambala-based bank manager who further intimated the police which visited the spot for an inspection.
Suspects behind bars in hours“Due to timely alert and advanced security system installed at this ATM booth, our teams in joint efforts with the crime investigation agency (CIA)-1 managed to arrest two accused on the same day of occurrence of crime. Every bank should install such a security system which can help in averting ATM robberies”, told SHO Ram Kumar.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, on the complaint of BOB, Ambala head cashier
Chaman Lal, a case against unknown under Section 380 (theft in dwelling, house, etc.), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 457 (lurking house-trespass by night to commit offence), and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Ambala City police station.
Chaman stated to the police, “During the early hours on Saturday, I received the call from our branch manager
Madan Lal, who informed me that somebody has tried to break open the BOB ATM machine installed at Hisar road near Manav Chowk. I reached there at around 1.40 am and witnessed that a lock of the main gate to ATM booth was broken. Somebody had attempted to break the machine to steal the cash and they had also sprayed the CCTV cameras. The security guards shut this ATM booth at 10 pm in the night.”
The Ambala police officials told, due to an advanced security system installed by the company taking care of BOB ATM, the robbers failed to break it open as the alarms got sounded and they had to flee away empty-handed.
