SILCHAR: Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday said everybody has to rise above religious affiliations and desist from making any comments fraught with communal overtone at this crucial juncture to fight against Covid-19.
Talking to the media in Karimganj, he warned that if anybody tries to vitiate the environment with communal statements, law-enforcment agencies will not hesitate in taking stringent action.

On Tuesday, AIUDF MLA from Dhing constituency Aminul Islam was arrested for posting an audio clip on the social media where he alleged that quarantine centres in the state have become more dangerous than detention camps for declared foreigners. He also said many people, who do not have any sign of the disease, have been kept in the quarantine camps.
The chief minister said functionaries of the state government and non-government organizations are working tirelessly across all 33 districts of the state. He also thanked the journalists for working tirelessly and giving everybody information pertaining to Covid-19.
As a part of his one day tour to the Barak Valley, the CM first visited Karimganj and held a meeting with the deputy commissioner and other senior officers to take stock of the measures to prevent Covid-19 infection in the district. DC (Karimganj) Anbamuthan MP apprised the chief minister of the steps taken.
Sonowal said people should remain indoors during the lockdown period and there should not be any shortfall of essential commodities. He also asked the DC to ensure that residents adhere to the advisory given by the health department and other line departments to maintain social distancing. He also asked the DC to give special care to tea garden areas and workers there.
The CM also visited Hailakandi and Silchar and took stock of the measures undertaken in the districts.
