Assam: Four arrested in Udalguri rape and murder case

GUWAHATI: Assam Police have arrested four persons in a connection to the alleged rape and murder of a 53-year-old school teacher at Kalaigaon in Udalguri district.
Dr LR Bishnoi, additional director general of police, Assam CID, while disclosing the development, tweeted on Sunday, “Under close monitoring by Hon. @DGPAssamPolice & myself, @AssamCid & @udalguripolice relentlessly pursued investigation of Kalaigaon PS C/No.65/20 & solved it within 4 days. Arrested accused Upendra Baruah, Hirakjyoti, Smt. Joshoda Rabha & Nawazir Hussain are in 7 days remand.”
The four have been arrested under several IPC sections, including 302 (murder) and 376 (punishment for rape), among others.
Earlier, Assam Police CID was roped in to probe the alleged rape and murder of the teacher whose body was recovered from a private school, nearly 1.5 km away from her residence at Kalaigaon in Udalguri.
The police said the deceased went missing on Monday and the family reported at 7 pm on Monday in the local police station.
The All Assam Students’ Union had demanded a judicial probe into the incident.
There have been allegations that her face was disfigured by the criminals by splashing some corrosive substance.
Udalguri Police suspected that the deceased was possibly attacked with some acid-like chemicals as the woman’s face was completely burnt.. “We are waiting for the forensic report to confirm the acid attack and rape,” the police said.
On Wednesday, Assam Police director general Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta had said, “As directed by the chief minister, Assam CID officials and forensic experts have been dispatched to assist the Udalguri Police. No stone will be left unturned to bring the culprits to book.”
