GUWAHATI: A day after a security guard at the official residence of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal committed suicide, the Assam government on Monday formed a committee to study reasons behind the increase in such cases among the state personnel.
The security guard was found hanging inside a restroom for the security personnel at the CM’s residence. The man has been identified as Babul Chandra Das (49) from the 10th Assam Police Battalion headquarters in Guwahati.

Police sources said Das was a patient of heart ailment and was “depressed”. Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, director general of police, said, “The Assam government has formed a committee with four members, including a psychologist, to study the reasons behind suicides among the Assam police personnel. Such incidents are going up in the department. The committee will also investigate into Das’s suicide and the reports will be submitted within ten days.”
