Centre to take up Jorhat-Majuli bridge construction soon: Assam CM

JORHAT: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said the Centre had assured to build a Jorhat-Majuli bridge over the Brahmaputra soon and that a detailed project report (DPR) had been completed for the bridge.
During a two-day visit to his constituency, Sonowal told reporters, “Union minster for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari spoke to me over phone and assured me on the construction of the bridge over the Brahmaputra soon.
The required survey by a competent team has also been completed for preparing the DPR. I have directed the department concerned a week ago to prepare the DPR at the earliest.”
Sonowal while inaugurating the newly constructed buildings of Majuli police station and Garhmur police station at Majuli and a guest house for the police personnel on Thursday, said the work culture of police force had improved tremendously in the last four and a half years and an environment had been developed where people could go to police stations to register complaints without any apprehension. During the previous state government regime, people hesitated to come to police stations and now, police and the public have come closer as police act on complaints promptly.
He also highlighted the importance of a conducive environment for the police personnel to work and deliver their services and said that a modernization drive of police stations has been undertaken by the state government through ‘MOITRI’ scheme.
Sonowal accompanied by MP Pradan Barua, MLAs Bimal Bora and Ranuj Pegu, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta also reviewed the implementation of different schemes of Panchayat and Rural Development being executed in Majuli.
