Covid-19: 2,112 test positive in Assam, biggest spike in last 4 mnths

GUWAHATI: In its biggest spike in the last four months, Assam registered 2112 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours while four more patients succumbed to the disease on Friday. With the fresh fatalities, the death toll in the state has increased to 98.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the four deceased are a 68-year-old man from Hojai, a 30-yer-old youth from Kamrup Metro, a 68-year-old man from Jorhat and a 59-year-old man from Dibrugarh.
In a tweet, he also informed that the second plasma bank in the state became operational at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital from Friday and the storekeeper-cum-clerk became the first donor. “His kind act shall inspire many others,” Sarma tweeted.
The biggest spike in the number of positive cases in last 24 was due to high number of tests (41,028). However, only little over 5% samples were found positive, which is lower than the positivity rate (7.11%) recorded in the preceding 24 hours. The cumulative count of confirmed cases in the state has reached 38,407.
Sarma tweeted, “2112 new #COVID cases detected in Assam out of 41028 tests in last 24 hrs. Kamrup (M): 283 Nagaon: 211 Kamrup (R): 210 Sonitpur: 132. Positivity rate 5.14%.”
The state’s recovery rate is over 75%, which is above the national recovery rate of over 64 %. In the last 24 hours, 1,248 patients have been discharged from hospitals, taking the cumulative count to 29,080. Altogether 9,226 patients are now in active stage.
