GUWAHATI: At least 25 families in Baghjan area in Tinuskia district of Assam are being evacuated following a massive blowout at a high pressure oil well of Oil India Limited (OIL) at around 10am.
At least 10 fire tenders were pressed into service to contain the uncontrolled release of crude oil and natural gas after the Christmas Tree on top of the well had blown out.

“The blowout might have been due to a ruptured pipeline, but we have to make a final assessment after the situation is brought under control,” an official said.
The blowout occurred when operation of the well was on. Fleeing villagers said that gushing crude oil and gas were falling all over the place.
