SECUNDERABAD: Commuting woes of people travelling to Habsiguda, Tarnaka, Nacharam, Moulali and ECIL X roads from Lalapet have finally eased after more than eight months.
The Lalapet flyover, which was closed in May 2019 for renovation and repair work, was made operational from Friday.
The repair work was expected to be completed by August 2019 but was postponed to December 2019.
“We were unable to procure bearings, so the work was delayed,” said a GHMC official.
“The flyover has been renovated at a cost of Rs 5.85 crore. Works such as elevation corrections, laying of CC wearing coat, new expansion joints, strengthening of beams were taken up,” said a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) engineer from projects department.
“The flyover being operation is now a major relief,” said Ananth Rao a resident of Moulali. “The traffic menace at Mirjalguda T junction has reduced. We no longer have to take a detour from Habsiguda and Nacharam to reach Tarnaka.”
When the flyover, measuring 650 metres in length was closed, heavy vehicles from Tarnaka Junction to Lalapet flyover were diverted at Tarnaka Metro Station , Tarnaka flyover and Habsiguda, causing congestion in those areas. Another resident said that the making the flyover operational was important keeping in mind heavy traffic.
“With heavy vehicle movement and the flyover being closed, commuters faced a nightmare. It’s a huge relief now,” said Ram Babu, resident of Teachers Colony, East Maredpally. The flyover was also in news after Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan visited the flyover in August and reprimanded the officials for the delay.
