HYDERABAD: The opposition parties, including BJP and Congress, have strongly denounced the scrapping of the Village Revenue officers (VROs) system in Telangana and termed it as a unilateral decision of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government.
The proposed new Revenue Act is also being brought without consulting any of the opposition parties and other stakeholders, said the two main opposition parties.

BJP chief spokesperson K Krishna Sagar Rao said when making sweeping changes to a time tested institutional framework, the best practice is to initiate thorough discussions with stakeholders, opposition parties and intellectuals through due process.
“KCR is acting like a dictator, not as a democratically elected head of a state government. The BJP has strongly denounced the brazen unilateralism of CM KCR in scrapping the existing revenue system and changing it to suit his political necessities,” he said.
Stating that KCR is evidently trying to outsmart NTR's reforms in revenue system, but only with a personal political agenda, The BJP demanded reconsideration of these hasty decisions by KCR-government.
BJP demanded that an expert committee be set up for studying the intended systemic changes to the revenue system by including opposition parties, retired revenue officers and experts.
Congress floor leader in the Assembly Bhatti Vikramarka said the KCR-government should have consulted the Congress, other opposition parties and all the stakeholders on VROs and other provisions of the proposed new Revenue Act.

The new Revenue Bill should be placed in the State Assembly for discussion only after preparing its draft in consultation with opposition parties and all the stakeholders. But this TRS government wants to pass the Act without much discussion as it has a majority in the House (Assembly).
Passing of such Acts without proper planning and discussion may lead to problems in revenue administration in the future, Bhatti added.
