HYDERABAD: A class VII student, who dreamt of pursuing an IIT course, was killed when a lorry hit the autorickshaw he was travelling in at Habsiguda crossroads on Tuesday.
Avanth Kumar, 13, a student of Bhashyam High School in Habsiguda, died on the spot, while his elder brother, Vedanth, 14, who was also in the auto, escaped with minor injuries. The accident occurred at 7.40 am when the sand-laden lorry crashed into the auto which was on its way to the school.
Under the impact of the crash, the auto overturned and Avanth, who was thrown out, came under the lorry wheels. There were seven students in the auto.

“Five other students sustained minor injuries and were shifted to Aditya Hospital. They were later discharged. Auto driver Srinivasu also sustained minor injuries,” said Uppal inspector P Venkateshwarlu. Police said the lorry driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle.
“The accident happened due to negligence of the lorry driver. There was no mistake on the part of the auto driver, who has been driving the three-wheeler to the school for almost 15 years,” Santosh Kumar, father of Avanth, said.
“Avanth was very intelligent. It was his dream to study in IIT-Bombay. We had chalked out everything accordingly for him. Now, he is gone,” Santosh, who is an RTC bus conductor at Chengicherla bus depot, said. The family resides in Kalyanpuri, Uppal.
A Bhashyam school staffer said they provide school buses. “We operate two school buses, but some parents prefer using their own transport. Avanth was a class topper and very active in school,” he said.
A case under sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 279 (rash driving) was filed against the lorry driver.
