A 26-year-old welder was sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping his five-year-old niece at their house in Golconda in July 2018.

HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old welder was sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping his five-year-old niece at their house in Golconda in July 2018.
On July 29, 2018, the victim’s grandfather had witnessed the accused sexually assaulting the girl who was asleep and raised an alarm. Family members caught the accused red-handed and handed him over to the police.
Golconda police registered a case under relevant Sections of the POCSO Act. Three months ago, Golconda police filed a chargesheet in the case and on Monday, I Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Hyderabad, Suneetha Kunchala, convicted the accused and sentenced him to 20 years RI and imposed Rs 4,000 fine, addl public prosecutor K Pratap Reddy said.
