HYDERABAD:
The South Central Railway (
SCR), which has been operating both freight and
parcel trains during the lockdown, has added two more freight terminals to facilitate
food grain movement from the zone to different parts of the country.
The two private freight terminals (PFTs) that have been added to the network are of Lakshminarasimha Infra at Nagireddypalli Railway Station of Yadadri-Bhongir district and Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Warehousing at Kaukuntla railway station of Mahbubnagar district in
Telangana.
While the terminal at Yadadri was commissioned on May 8, the second terminal started operations on May 25.
Officials said that both the freight and parcel trains are being run with a focus on commodities like food grains, milk, milk products, fruits, fish, eggs and other perishable items in their special trains such as
Doodh Duronto specials (railway milk tankers), Jai Kisan freight trains (trains to transport food grains) etc.
SCR general manager Gajanan Mallya, in a satatement said that these two new PFTs in Telangana will immensely help in transportation of foodgrains by rail to different parts of the country and assist in enhancing freight loading of the zone.
So far, each of the two PFTs has moved boiled rice of 2,400 tonnes to Arakkonam junction and Erode station in
Tamil Nadu. These were earlier moved by road from various warehouses that are nearby.
