HYDERABAD: The Congress on Saturday charged the TRS government of failing to upgrade the infrastructure in government hospitals for treatment of Covid-19 patients four months after the first case of coronavirus was reported in Telangana.
State Congress president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said a large number of party leaders, workers and people have uploaded videos, images and expressed their ire against the TRS government for not handling effectively the coronavirus situation, as part of “speak up Telangana campaign” organized by the Congress on various social media platforms on Saturday.

Addressing the party cadre on a social media platform, Uttam demanded that the state government immediately conduct tests on a mass scale and improve infrastructure in all the government hospitals by providing ventilators and oxygen equipment among other facilities.
.
He demanded covid-19 treatment be brought under Aarogyasri scheme, that the government rein in private hospitals charging huge sums for coronavirus treatment, that Rs10 lakh ex-gratia should be paid to the families of poor people who died of coronavirus and Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia to medical, health, sanitation, municipal and gram panchayat and police work force who succumbed to covid-19.
“CM KCR adopted a non-serious approach in handling the covid-19 situation from the beginning. The CM had termed coronavirus as a normal flu which could be treated with a paracetamol tablet and the virus would die in 22 degrees celsius temperature. No arrangements have been made at numerous government hospitals in the state except Gandhi to treat covid-19 patients. Even the health equipment procured lacked quality as a result of which 150 doctors and other staff, including the Superintendent, of Osmania General Hospital were infected with covid-19,” Uttam alleged and held CM KCR, his council of ministers and officers concerned responsible for the coronavirus deaths in the state so far.
Though several patients sent messages hours before their death that they were not being provided with oxygen and ventilators in government hospitals, instead of taking corrective action the TRS government found fault with the patients for using mobile phones. Not a single official faced any action despite people dying due to negligence.
