Heavy rain wreaks havoc in Jaipur; train services, road traffic hit

JAIPUR: Heavy rain lashed the Pink City, wreaking havoc and disrupting normal life, causing waterlogging at several places and affecting train services and road traffic movement on Friday.
Rainfall that started at 6.30am in the morning continued till 1pm exposed the lofty claims of civic authorities on their drainage management. At least 13 teams of civil defence and four teams of state disaster relief force were deployed across the city to rescue and help people stuck in low-lying areas of Jaipur.

It all started with drizzles at 6.30am which soon converted into torrential rainfall within 15 minutes. "A rainfall of around 113km was recorded across Jaipur till 1pm since morning," said an officer with Jaipur Met office.

Areas, including MI Road, Choti Chaupar, Chaura Raasta, Naraian Singh Circle, Statue Circle witnessed rampant waterlogging as roads got submerged in water. Likewise, people got stuck on their way to offices and homes during the morning. 13 teams of civil defence got departed for several low-lying areas in Bhatta Basti, Jawahar Nagar Kachchi Basti and colonies adjoining Amanishah Ka Nullah.
Heavy rainfall also affected the rail movement from Jaipur railway station as the tracks at Gandhi Nagar and Durgapura railway stations were submerged. "So far Jaipur Mumbai super fast has got delayed," said a senior officer.
In its forecast, Jaipur Met office said that heavy to very heavy rainfall was expected for the next 24 hours.
