MLA hits road to spray disinfectants in Jaipur

JAIPUR: Congress chief whip Mahesh Joshi, who has the status of a cabinet minister, was seen spraying disinfectants in his constituency areas of the city on Thursday.The gesture was hailed by locals who saw their leader among the frontline people battling the spread of Covid-19.
Joshi and his son reached Shubash Chowk area with portable spray machines. Pictures of Joshi were also pasted on the spraying machines, which his supporters were hanging on their shoulders.
However , the move was criticised by many officials as residents have to maintain social distancing.
A JMC official said, “Though supporters of the leaders were wearing masks, but many people gathered, which is wrong. The JMC staff was also deployed in the area on the directions of the leader.”
Taking an initiative to disinfect public areas, transport minister Pratap Singh also inspected the areas and monitored the drive where sodium hypochlorite was sprayed. The state has deployed 17 fire tenders and 2 vehicle mounted machines to disinfect the public areas. A total of 120 teams have been constituted to carry out the drive
Official source said calls to JMC for disinfectant spraying have multiplied from various localities as the number of coronavirus positive cases was on the rise. In fact, gated societies which would routinely refuse inspections by JMC teams earlier are allowing uninhibited access now for spraying, sources said.
The teams in the city have begun spraying localities where there is a possibility of Covid-19 spread including Walled City areas.
