JAIPUR: Seven persons, most of whom from the same village, died in an accident in Salasar area of Churu district close to Sunday midnight.
The accident occurred when the SUV in which they were travelling rammed into a truck. The accident was so severe that all passengers except one died on the spot. The survivor was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Five of them belonged to Rolsahabsar village in Churu district, while two others hailed from Sikar district.
Police found that among those who died, four had criminal records. They also found weapons from the mangled SUV. “We found one pistol, four cartridges and four iron rods from the SUV. Four of them had criminal records,” police superintendent of police Tejaswani Gautam told TOI.
The deceased have been identified as Imran Khan, Gazi Khan, Imran, Rafiq, Iqbal Khan, Babu Khan and Islam. Police received information about the accident around 11.45pm.
According to police, the SUV collided with a trolley or truck which has not been identified. “We are collecting footage from toll plazas to identify the vehicle which was involved in the accident,” said Gautam.
However, the police are hopeful of getting vital clues from the survivor, identified as Iqbal. Once he is able to speak, police will record his statement and collect more facts about the accident.
Police have registered a case against an unidentified vehicle based on a complaint filed by a relative of a person killed in the accident.
