KANPUR: Activists, allegedly belonging to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), on Sunday morning created ruckus at Shiv Katra area of Chakeri in the city over ‘religious conversion’ of people.
After knowing about the incident, the circle officer (CO) Cantt RK Chaturvedi along with heavy police reached the spot, pacified the mob and brought the situation under control.
According to police sources, the VHP activists reached the house of one Anand Singh in Shiv Katra locality that was being used as a church and alleged that religious conversion of people to Christianity was going on there.

The CO said a probe into the matter was on and Anand Singh was being questioned.
“We have questioned Anand Singh, who denied the VHP’s allegation of religious conversion. He claimed that as usual, Sunday prayer was underway at one of the rooms which he often used as a church in his house. Security has been beefed up in the locality to prevent any untoward incident” the CO said. “Both groups have lodged complaints. After verifying the facts, police will register an FIR,” he added.
To recall in July 2019, a right-wing group had created a ruckus over suspicion of conversions by a pastor in Kashiram Colony of the city. The pastor was allegedly beaten by the activists over rumours of conversion.
