Kanpur: District judge orders closure of Kanpur court till July 18

KANPUR: District judge Kanpur Nagar Ashok Kumar Singh (III) has ordered further closure of Kanpur court till July 18 as it is still in the containment zone.
The district judge in his order stated that after perusing the chief medical officer’s report, it is clear that since the civil court campus is still in the containment zone and will remain so till July 18, therefore, the court should remain closed.

He said that since the court campus was in the containment zone, and the district magistrate and the CMO were of the opinion that the threat level of corona pandemic was quite high and the situation was grim, the civil court campus should be closed till July 18.
“As head of the institution, I am of the opinion that in such a situation the life of judges, magistrates, lawyers , litigants and court staff cannot be risked, therefore exercising powers vested in me by the high court, I am declaring that the civil court campus shall remain closed till July 18”, the DJ said in his order.
He stated in his order that the chief metropolitan magistrate, Kanpur Nagar, would ensure that the remands and bails applications of arrested persons are heard as per holiday practice. The DM and the CMO would submit their report regarding threat level and status in respect of the containment zone of the civil court campus every day so that the same could be submitted to the high court on a daily basis, he said.
Earlier in the morning, a meeting was held at the sessions house to discuss the status in respect of the containment zone of the civil court. The meeting was attended by DM Brahmadeo Ram Tiwari, ADM (Admin) Vivek Kumar Srivastava, CMO Dr Ashok Kumar Shukla, SP(Traffic) Basant Lal, representing SSP Kanpur, municipal commissioner Akshay Kumar Tripathi, judicial official VK Singh and CMM Chinta Ram.
The CMO in his report suggested closing the court till July 18 which was agreed by the DM. In view of the direction of Allahabad high court and the suggestions given by the CMO and DM, it was decided to close the court till July 18 the district judge observed.
