GSVM student’s body fished out from Ganga

Kanpur: The body of final year MBBS student of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial (GSVM) medical college was fished out from river Ganga in Shuklaganj area of Unnao on Friday evening a day after she went missing. During the investigation, her scooty was found parked at the Ganga Barrage area.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, scores of GSVM students reached the Ganga Barrage area and staged a protest accusing police of an insensitive approach in the investigation of their missing counterpart.
The students were pacified after senior police officials rushed to the site and assured them of prompt action into the missing case.
Amrita Singh (24), a native of Jhansi, who was pursuing MBBS final year at GSVM medical college in the city, disappeared under mysterious circumstances after leaving her hostel on a scooty on Thursday afternoon.
Police said the body of a girl was spotted by locals of Ravidas Nagar in Katri area in Shuklaganj area of Unnao on Friday evening, and it was confirmed to be that of the missing GSVM student Amrita. “Her body was shifted to morgue for the post-mortem examination. We are awaiting the report to corroborate cause of her death,” said SP (West) Anil Kumar.
Police said that the girl had last spoken to her mother on the mobile phone at 12 noon on Friday. “As per her mother, she was normal when she had last spoken to her,” said inspector Swaroop Nagar Ashwini Pandey. “We talked to her batch mates and teachers and they all stated that Amrita was a good student and had cordial relations with them”, he added
An investigation was underway to determine whether she took her own life, according to a police official privy to the investigation.

A group of GSVM students said they were shocked at her sudden death. Our thoughts and prayers for her family and the loved ones.
To recall, Amrita, a native of Jhansi district, had left the hostel room on Thursday afteroon. “She used to live with Anushi, her room partner at the GSVM hostel,” the inspector said. Her mobile phone and a purse were recovered from her the dicky of her two-wheeler, he added.
“Despite repeated attempt to call on her phone, when her roommate Anushi did not get any response, she alerted the GSVM authorities, who in turn informed Swaroop Nagar police,” the police officer further said.
Following this, a missing case was registered at Swaroop Nagar police station and the police had formed several teams to trace the girl.
