Man gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment for abducting, raping girl

KANPUR: Additional district and sessions judge (I), Kanpur Nagar, Mohd Riyaz on Wednesday, sentenced accused Shesh Narain Shastri of Unnao district to 10 years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 60,000 for abducting and raping a girl.
The judge also observed in his order that out of the fine amount, Rs 50,000 be given to the victim as compensation, said ADGC Rajendra Prasad Uttam.

The prosecution told the court that the rape survivor's father in his complaint lodged with the police on July 5, 2013, had stated that his 23-year-old daughter, who pursuing LLB, had gone to her college to seek information about the exams but did not return. A report of her disappearance was lodged on August 16, 2013.
He stated in the report that Shesh Narayan Dixit, who claimed himself as Shastri and used to perform 'katha' and puja at her house, had enticed her daughter. The police, after registering the case against him, later recovered the girl on September 15, 2013, from Jhakarkatti inter-state bus terminal. The court, on the basis of evidence on record, convicted the accused accordingly, the ADGC said.
