Uttar Pradesh: Tantrik hired by a villager found murdered in his house

KANPUR: Body of a ‘tantrik’ (occultist), with throat slit open, was found lying in a pool of blood in the house of a villager Sughar Singh in Bakewar police area of Etawah district on late Thursday night. He was hacked to death in Kudariya village under Bakewar police station of the district.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Hargovind Singh of Malepura village of the district, had gone to Kudariya village to cure Sughar Singh’s daughter-in-law Lakshmi, who has been ill since long through his occult practices.
The tantrik was apparently hacked to death by her family members, the police said.
Sughar Singh and his family members, including Lakshmi, have been absconding since then.
According to police, Hargovind used to treat patients with black magic by sacrificing animals.
“Body of Hargovind with his throat slit open was found lying in a pool of blood. A goat and a cock, apparently sacrificed by him, were also recovered from Sughar’s house,” said a police official.
SP (rural) Omveer Singh, said, “We have launched a probe into the matter. The body has been sent for the postmortem examination. Prima facie evidence indicates that the occultist was hired by Lakshmi’s father-in-law Sughar Singh and was later was murdered following a dispute with the family members. We have also recovered carcasses of a goat and a cock, apparently sacrificed by Hargovind before his murder. There were signs of protest all over the house. Raids are underway to arrest Sughar Singh and his family members”.
