KOLHAPUR: Satara district collector Shekhar Singh on Wednesday appointed a threemember committee to investigate the case of two human foetuses found in the drainage line of the Krantisinh Nana Patil civil hospital here.
The foetuses were found while fixing the blocked drainage line a few days ago. The gender of the foetuses have not been identified yet.
The hospital is currently treating Covid-19 patients and has dedicated Covid wards.
However, sources said two separate wards are still handling maternity cases.
Singh said, “We learnt about the incident through some news reports. This is a sensitive issue and needs thorough investigation. I have appointed a panel comprising the district health officer, the women and child development officer and the legal officer of the hospital for investigation. I have asked them to submit a report by August 14.”
Sources said more dead foetuses are likely to be found in the drainage pipeline. This is the first time such an incident has occurred at the hospital. Serious questions are being raised by local residents over the functioning of the hospital. Hospital dean Amod Gadikar was not available for comment.
