KOLKATA: The chill-bearing northwesterly wind and a clear sky forced the mercury to recede below the normal mark on Saturday. At 12°C, the minimum temperature slipped two notches below normal from 15.1°C on Friday. The Met office said the chill will stay for two days.
"The chill will prevail on Sunday and Monday, when the minimum temperature will hover around the 12°C mark," said G K Das, director (weather), RMC, Kolkata.

A cyclonic circulation likely to develop over MP will start blocking the path of the northwesterly by Tuesday, and there will be moisture injected by a high pressure belt from Bay of Bengal. The minimum temperature could surge up to 18°C by Wednesday. "We are expecting light rain in the city and other parts of south Bengal that could start during the latter part of Tuesday. While the night temperature rises, the maximum temperature will retreat a bit during this period," added Das.
The rain could continue intermittently till Thursday.
