KOLKATA: Ali Imran, a shopkeeper, was sent to jail for 10 years by additional sessions judge of city sessions court Sukla Sengupta on Thursday for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy on September 19, 2015, said Tamal Mukherjee, special public prosecutor in the case. Ali had been charged under Pocso and Section 506, IPC (punishment for criminal intimidation).
Both the survivor and the accused used to stay in the same building in Mullick Bazar.
On the day of the incident, when the Class-VII student had been returning from a barber’s shop in the afternoon, Imran approached him and took him to his room on the pretext of playing games. There he sexually abused the boy.
The survivor’s mother told Nirmal Das, investigating officer of Park Street police station, that her son was very upset after returning home and had refused to eat. As he had alleged that he had been sodomised, a medical examination was conducted on him at Calcutta National Medical College Hospital and the report was provided to the court, said special PP Mukherjee.
The court ordered 10 years’ rigorous punishment for Imran, who had pleaded for mercy for being an elderly person. The court also awarded a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the boy, who had suffered physically and mentally. The money will be paid by the district legal service authority.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
