UP CM Yogi Adityanath orders to double L2 and L3 Covid beds in Lucknow

Even as the state government confirms the availability of 1.5 lakh beds for Covid-19 patients, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to increase the number of level 2 and 3 (L-2 & L-3) beds in all districts, especially the sensitive ones.

LUCKNOW: Even as the state government confirms the availability of 1.5 lakh beds for Covid-19 patients, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to increase the number of level 2 and 3 (L-2 & L-3) beds in all districts, especially the sensitive ones.
The directions come after the state government permitted home isolation for asymptomatic patients or those with mild symptoms.

The CM reviewed the availability of beds in various hospitals of Lucknow on Wednesday evening. He has said that the number of ICU and HCU beds in L-2 and L-3 hospitals should be doubled.

The hospitals for which the CM reviewed availability of beds include SGPGI, KGMU, RML, Era, Medanta, Apollo, Sahara, Army Base hospital, Integral, TSM Medical College, Hind and Lok Bandhu.
During an inspection of BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur on Wednesday, the CM asked health authorities to increase the number of ventilators and L-3 beds, reserved for most severe cases.
“There are 1,23,460 beds in L-1 hospitals, 15,812 beds in L-2 hospitals and 12,490 beds in L-3 hospitals. Out of these, more than 4,000 beds have ICU facility and we are working to increase it to 8,000,” the CM said.
Chief secretary RK Tiwari, who was on an inspection in Kanpur on Tuesday, issued similar directions to the health department.
Additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Awasthi, Lucknow DM and commissioner inspected KGMU and other hospitals and directed officials to increased beds. Lucknow has been recording highest daily cases. “We have prepared a plan to increase the number of beds. Once the CM clears the proposal, it will be implemented to ensure that there is no shortage of beds in Lucknow or any other district,” Awasthi said.
