Covid-19 strikes juvenile home in Lucknow, 56 inmates test positive

About 56 juveniles at an observation home and 12 employees of UP 112 were among 475 new Covid-19 patients recorded in the city on Wednesday.

LUCKNOW: About 56 juveniles at an observation home and 12 employees of UP 112 were among 475 new Covid-19 patients recorded in the city on Wednesday.
Area wise, Hazratganj recorded highest 27 cases, followed by Thakurganj (25), Indiranagar (23), Alambagh (21), Gomtinagar (20), Talkatora (19), Mahanagar (17) and Cantonment (15). The city corona tally has now reached 14,696, of which 6,518 (44%) cases have surfaced in August so far.

The active cases are now 6,895.
A total 7,633 patients have recovered so far. The 56 juveniles in the observation home on Mohan Road tested positive during a sampling drive carried out on the directive of the district administration. Currently, 152 juveniles are lodged in the home.
Superintendent of the juvenile home, Sanjay Soni, said that random sampling was done on August 8 and 9 after some of the inmates complained of cough and mild fever.
“Those have tested Covid positive have been shifted to the railway hospital in Charbagh. Others in the home are maintaining strict safety protocol. Home premises has also been sanitzsed,” he added.
District probation officer Sudhakar Pandey said the juveniles diagnosed with coronavirus belong to Lucknow, Unnao and Rae Bareli.
On July 27, six juveniles in the home had tested positive. However, two of them fled from the home on August 3. Later, one was traced while the other is still missing.
