Crackdown on mafia: Rs 35 crore assets seized in UP

In the biggest single-day statewide crackdown on gangsters in Uttar Pradesh, police seized assets and demolished property of Rs 35 crore on Sunday. While Muzaffarnagar don Imlaqh’s Rs 25-crore property was attached, smuggling kingpin Shivshankar Seth’s Rs 4.88-crore property was seized in Varanasi.

LUCKNOW: In the biggest single-day statewide crackdown on gangsters in Uttar Pradesh, police seized assets and demolished property of Rs 35 crore on Sunday. While Muzaffarnagar don Imlaqh’s Rs 25-crore property was attached, smuggling kingpin Shivshankar Seth’s Rs 4.88-crore property was seized in Varanasi.
A palatial bungalow of dreaded gangster Khan Mubarak was demolished in Ambedkarnagar and Rs 2.5-crore property of Rae Bareli don Rajiv Kumar was also confiscated.
Properties of two accused under Cow Slaughter Act were also seized in Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich. Superintendent of police, Ambedkarnagar, Alok Priyadarshi told TOI that Khan Mubarak, who has 50 cases against him, illegally acquired property in Harsambhar village and a joint team of district administration and police razed his haveli on Sunday.
Police seized 118 bigha encroached land
Last week, police demolished Khan’s 20 illegal shops and a shopping complex, whose market value is pegged at Rs 1.5 crore. Also, Rs 7crore assets of Khan and his aides were seized last month.
In another crackdown, Rs 1.5-crore property of notorious Rae Bareli-based don Rajiv Kumar was seized. “This included a double-storied house in a posh locality and SUVs. Kumar has 25 cases against him,” said SP, Rae Bareli, Shlok Kumar.
In Muzaffarnagar, police seized 118 bigha land encroached by Imlaqh and freed the campus of Baba College of Pharmacy, which was illegally occupied by him. The don set ablaze police vehicles and vandalised property in 2017 and has several cases against him, including attempt to murder, fraud and running an exam copying racket. The Gangsters Act was slapped on him in 2018, said SP Muzaffarnagar
Abhishek Yadav. Property worth Rs 85crore has been confiscated since July, he said. In a similar exercise in Baghpat, Rs 1.2crore assets of gangster Sunil Rathi was seized.
SSP, Varanasi, Amit Pathak said, Shivshankar Seth and his brother, Chhotu, were involved in liquor smuggling and had amassed wealth. Shivshankar had 11 cases against him, while four were registered against Chhotu.
In Bahraich, Rs 30 lakh property of two accused under Cow Slaughter Act — Ishtkhar and Jairam Verma — were confiscated and in Lakhimpur Kheri, Rs 30-lakh assets of Nasimullah, booked for cow slaughter, was confiscated.
A senior police official said, 2,703 cases have been registered under the Gangster’s Act since January 1 after which 8,906 people were arrested and properties worth Rs 270 crore of 441 criminals have been confiscated.
