Kanpur encounter: Opposition slams BJP for failure on law and order front

Opposition parties slammed Uttar Pradesh government over the Kanpur police encounter with criminals in which eight policemen including a deputy superintendent of police lost his life in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

LUCKNOW: Opposition parties slammed Uttar Pradesh government over the Kanpur police encounter with criminals in which eight policemen including a deputy superintendent of police lost his life in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Calling the demise of the policemen tragic, former chief minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav dubbed the incident as ‘one of the shameful examples of the nexus between ruling government and criminals’.


“This is the most shameful incident in the world of crime in Uttar Pradesh where the nexus between ruling government and criminals, the price of which was paid by eight policemen.”

He stated that those behind the incident must be exposed. He also demanded compensation for the family members of the slain policemen.
Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and former CM Mayawati said that the incident was extremely disturbing and unfortunate.
“It is clear that the UP government needs to pull up its socks in matters of law and order. The government must not spare the criminals at any cost,” she said in a tweet besides demanding a job of the family members of the deceased policemen.

Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that the law and order situation in UP was in a mess. “The CM holds the office of home department and is responsible for law and order. He must act strongly against the gory incident and tolerate no laxity at any cost,” she said.
Former congress president and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi said that the incident was a proof of the prevalent ‘goondaraj’ in UP. “When the police are not safe, the state of common people can be guessed,” Rahul said, extending condolence to the family besides hoping for speedy recovery of the injured.
