UP ATS arrests suspected terrorist from Meerut

In a joint-operation by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (UPATS) and Special Operation group of the Punjab Police, a suspected terrorist owing allegiance to Khalistan movement was arrested from Thaparnagar in Meerut on Saturday evening.

Tirath Singh was booked in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) act by the Mohali police in January 2020.
LUCKNOW: In a joint-operation by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (UPATS) and Special Operation group of the Punjab Police, a suspected terrorist owing allegiance to Khalistan movement was arrested from Thaparnagar in Meerut on Saturday evening.
An information about movement of suspect Tirath Singh (32) was shared by Punjab police and passed to ATS in UP.
UP ATS said that Tirath Singh was booked in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) act by the Mohali police in January 2020.

UP ATS, additional director general of police, ATS, DK Thakur said that cache of literature pertaining to Khalistan movement has been recovered from his possession. Posters of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale were also found to be with him.
"Social media account and WhatsApp of Tirath were filled with messages showing his support to the Khalistan movement," said an officer privy to the probe.
UP Police also said that Tirath was arrested in the past also by Punjab Police for supplying arms and ammunition to the supporters of Khalistan in the state.
In the past months, UP ATS has arrested several members who were supporters of Khalistan and had sought refuge in the state or were involved in weapon trade.
