LUDHIANA: The police on Friday claimed to have arrested two criminals after arms and ammunition were recovered from them near Amloh road in Khanna.
While Dhiraj Batta of Kharar and Gurpreet Singh Laddi of Khanna were nabbed, their accomplice Amninder Singh Prince, also of Khanna, managed to give police the slip.
Khanna SSP Gursharandeep Singh Grewal said, “On a tip-off, a checkpost was set up on Amloh road.
When a Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza car (PB-65-AG-8628) was signalled to stop, one of its three occupants took to his heels. But the other two — Dhiraj Batta and Gurpreet Singh Laddi — were caught. During checking, a .32 bore pistol with two magazines and 15 live cartridges were recovered from Dhiraj. Another .32 bore pistol with a magazine and nine live cartridges were seized from Gurpreet. They told during interrogation that the man who escaped was their aide Amninder Prince.”
“The accused were planning a criminal activity in Khanna. Following their questioning, a third .30 bore pistol, two magazines and 12 live cartridges were recovered from Gurpreet’s house.,” said a cop.
Following the seizure, a case under the Arms Act was registered against the three.
Police said 20 cases were already registered against Gurpreet, including those of rape, attempt to murder, robbery, making preparation for dacoity, fraud, forgery, drugs, among others, in Khanna and Mohali. He joined the crime world in 2007.
“As many as 13 FIRs were lodged against Dhiraj, including those of attempt to murder, making preparation for dacoity, assault, drug peddling, among others, in Khanna, Fatehgarh Sahib and Mohali districts. He has been active since 2009. Amninder has eight cases against him in Khanna, including attempt to murder, making preparation for dacoity, assault, forgery FIRs, among others. He too started committing crimes in 2009,” the cop added.
