Day 2: 119 school vehicles challaned & 8 impounded
Ludhiana: On the second day of the drive against vehicles not complying with Safe School Vahan Scheme, 119 buses and vans were challaned and eight impounded.
As many as 118 teams of police, two of Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and seven of sub-divisional magistrates (SDM) inspected 432 vehicles on Tuesday. Around 6.30am, police and RTA teams installed checkpoints at various road intersections.

Two teams of RTA, the deputy district education officer (secondary) and the district child protection officer also visited schools to check their buses.
According to the administration data, RTA checked 173 buses, of which 59 were challaned and six impounded.
Raikot, Ludhiana West, Jagraon, Payal, Khanna, Samrala and Ludhiana East SDMs challaned 33 buses and impounded one.
Police checked 91 vehicles, of which 27 were challaned and one impounded.
RTA general secretary Damanjeet Singh Mann said, “Fearing challans, many school vehicles stayed off road Tuesday.”
