Punjab: Gangster Dilpreet, accomplice sentenced to 5 years' imprisonment, Rs 5,000 fine by Ropar court

The court of additional and session judge Ropar (Rupnagar) Surinder Kaur on Friday announced five years imprisonment to gangster Dilpreet Singh alias Baba and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassi in case of attempt to murder. The court has also imposed a fine amounting to Rs 5000 each to both the accused in case. The accused will have to face three months more imprisonment in case of failure to pay the fine.

PATIALA: The court of the additional and sessions judge in Ropar (Rupnagar) in Punjab Surinder Kaur on Friday awarded a five years' imprisonment to gangster Dilpreet Singh alias Baba and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassi in a case of attempt to murder.
The court has also imposed a fine amounting to Rs 5,000 each to both the accused in case. The accused will have to face the imprisonment of three months more in the case of failure to pay the fine.
Dilpreet Singh and his two accomplices Jaspreet Singh and Jagroop Singh were booked under sections 307 (attempt of murder) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC and sections 25, 54, & 59 of the Arms Act at Nurpur Bedi police station of Ropar district on February 5, 2015.
The case was registered on the complaint of Bachittar Singh of Bhaowal village in Ropar.
In his complainant to the police, Bachittar Singh alleged that on February 4, 2015, while he was riding his bike towards a liquor vend in the village, the accused Dilpreet and his accomplices came into their Swift car and opened fire on him. He alleged that he faced bullet injury on his elbow and ribs following which he was hospitalized after being rushed by local villagers. He said he was luckily saved by the doctors.
The Ropar court on Friday declared Dilpreet and Jaspreet guilty. However, the accused, Jagroop Singh of Lodhipur village in Anandpur Sahib division of Ropar district, has been declared proclaimed offender (PO) since November 28, 2018.
Dilpreet, 27 of Dhahan village in Ropar, was produced before the Ropar court on Friday. He was brought from Haryana's Ambala Jail where he was lodged for the last two weeks after the Ambala police had taken him into their custody for interrogation in a case registered against him under sections of IPC.

Sushil Kumar, ADA, who handled the case for government and presented evidence against the gangster Dilpreet said that the accused had opened fire with his weapon on the complainant Bachittar Singh following some old rivalry. He said Dilpreet has been sent back to Ambala jail after the court hearing.
Dilpreet has been declared ‘A-category’ gangster by the police. The police claimed that a number of cases under sections of attempt to murder, Arms Act and others have been registered against him across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Dilpreet was also booked by Mohali police for allegedly opening fire on Punjabi singer Parmeesh Verma.
The hearing of the accused Jaspreet Singh Jassi was held through video conferencing from Kapurthala jail where he has been lodged in another case.
