LUDHIANA: In another case of coronavirus reported in Ludhiana, a 72-year-old Jalandhar woman has tested positive in preliminary testing. Though Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), where the patient is admitted to the isolation ward, claimed she had not shared her travel history with the hospital, the Punjab government in its release said she had travel history.
Ludhiana deputy commissioner Pradeep Agrawal said, “As this is a transferred case, the interrogation of travel history would be done by the chief medical officer of that respective district.
They will check the passports and seek further clarifications. In fact, the case would be registered under Jalandhar administration.”
Meanwhile, sources in Jalandhar revealed that she had come in contact with people, who were visiting her place from Italy.
She was transferred to CMCH from a Jalandhar hospital.
The authorities from CMCH said, “She had first visited the hospital on March 21 with cough, fever and breathlessness since March 16. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and was isolated through the Covid-19 pathway.”
“She did not inform about her travel history to the hospital authorities. She is currently on medication, requiring non-invasive ventilation,” the authorities add.
Chief medical officer Dr Rajesh Bagga said, “One case has been found positive and the source of infection would be looked into by the CMO Jalandhar. We have sent patients, who tested negative, for home quarantine. Now, there are 12 persons in the isolation wards of the civil hospital.”

Deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said 52 samples of suspected patients have been taken in the district till now, out of which reports of 43 are negative, one is positive, while report of seven is awaited. Last evening, a sample of another Jalandhar-based patient was found positive in preliminary testing and the sample has been sent to the laboratory for further testing.
‘War room’
The deputy commissioner said, “A 24x7 ‘war room’ has been set up by the district administration where senior officials would oversee the process related to permissions and complaints. He informed that several NGOs or social organisations are coming forward in this hour of need.”
