Jewellery theft: Cops release pic of IIFL envelope
Ludhiana: The division number 6 police have released the picture of an envelope used by India Infoline Finance Limited (IIFL) to keep the jewellery of customers, for public. The police have appealed to the public to contact the police if they find such envelop abandoned anywhere, so the police can get lead in this case.
The mortgaged jewellery of customers are always kept in a specific type of envelope, which contains the detail of branch, series number, secret code, weight of jewellery and also the details of customers.
The robbers who struck at the Gill Road branch of IIFL Gold Loan on February 17 had escaped with the jewellery, which was sealed in these envelopes. According to police officials, the robbers would bring out the jewellery from these envelopes and would then sell these away.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Industrial Area-B) Sandeep Vadehra said these envelopes of the IIFL could give a lead to the Ludhiana police. The 30kg jewellery was kept in these sealed envelopes and the robbers have decamped with the jewellery in these envelopes. “The accused will obviously remove these envelopes. Therefore, the police are releasing picture of envelopes, so that if anyone sees it anywhere, the police can be contacted. The police have shared the picture of envelope along with numbers of Ludhiana police with the police of different districts and states,” added ACP.
On February 17, five armed robbers barged into Gill road branch of the IIFL and executed the robbery of 30kg gold jewellery, which had been mortgaged by customers. The accused came in a while colour Maruti Suzuki Ciaz car and remained in the office for about 20 minutes. They kept the staff hostage at gunpoint and escaped with the gold jewellery after locking the staff inside.
The robbers were wearing pink colour sweatshirts having hoods. The Ludhiana police so far have not been able to get any breakthrough in this case.
