LUDHIANA: A high-level drama was witnessed during demolition drive being carried out by Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) where one of the encroachers allegedly slapped and manhandled an engineer. The team of officials along with police force had gone to remove the fresh encroachment being done by the encroachers at prime land in Model Town extension area on Tuesday.
The encroachers claimed land belonged to them while officials claimed that they had taken possession of this land and on some part flats were constructed while land was kept for construction of school.
The LIT chairman had to reach the spot and intervene for demolition of fresh construction while for rest of the encroachment the officials have given one week time to people.
The LIT officials while taking heavy police force reached the spot and first of all tried to remove temporary sheds where plants were kept and it was constructed along the boundary wall of flats. Reacting to this, Ravinder Singh who claims himself to be owner of land started arguing with officials and allegedly slapped the LIT engineer Jagdev Singh. The cops however took him away forcibly and meanwhile the officials removed that shed. After that Ravinderpal Sonu sat on protest along with other people at site.
The LIT officials asked them to move so that they could complete the task but he did not budge rather he alleged that land belonged to his ancestors since 1956 and possession of land was still in their name.
On the other hand the LIT officials claimed that they had paid amount to the ancestors and land belonged to the department. The officials also claimed that these people had filed case in lower court and then in high court from where they lost the battle but even then they did not vacate the prime land. The encroacher has further constructed a few shanties at this land where migrant workers are living.
However senior police officials and chairman of LIT Raman Balasubramanium also reached the spot. The police officials asked him to either remove the recently constructed wall of his own otherwise LIT will do it. He agreed to remove wall and it was removed in no time. After this, LIT chairman asked him to clear encroachment from this land in one week or show documentary proof of his ownership otherwise they will remove everything.
