The police revealed that the deceased was shot dead and the bullet hit left side of the forehead while he was sitting on the driver seat of the car. The police said that in the initial inputs from the relatives of the deceased it has been found that the deceased was right-handed. The police had neither ruled out the suicide angle nor had confirmed it as a murder. The weapon used in the crime was a licensed weapon of the deceased who is survived by his wife and two children including a daughter.

Nabha DSP, VS Thind feigned ignorance about Amandeep as a complainant in any case against a judge but said, “We are investigating into the matter further after registering the case. The statements of the family members have been recorded and some of relatives and friends of the deceased are called to join the probe. The family is inconsolable at this moment.”
The police later on Saturday evening held a press conference and said that a case under sections of murder and arms act was registered against Dharamjit Singh alias soni who is a relative of the deceased. SP investigation HS Hundal said, "The accused have been booked for murder and the dispute is said to be over money amounting to Rs 10 lakh cash and another Rs 10 lakh of an innova car which was sold. The accused wanted back his money. So far there's no angle of involvement of judge but the accused Dharamjit was also eyewitness in the corruption case filed against the judge."
