Punjab: Police arrest two drug peddlers in Ludhiana

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana rural police have arrested two drug peddlers after they recovered five kilograms opium and fifty kilograms poppy husk from the onion laden truck from near Boparai Kalan in Sudhar area. The accused were identified as Harwinder Singh of village Thali Kalan in Ropar and Balwinder Singh of Bhorla bet in Macchiwara.
Crime Investigating Agency's (CIA) Jagraon Incharge Simarjit Singh said that ASI Gursewak Singh of CIA got information that the accused are bringing drugs in onion laden truck.
He added that finding the information credible, CIA team set up a check post Drain bridge near Boparai Kalan village on Saturday evening.
Police officials said the CIA stopped the truck bearing registration number PB 12 T 8461 coming from Main road Ludhiana side. They added that during search of the truck, police recovered the consignment.
Cops said that the accused were booked under sections of NDPS act at Sudhar police station and they were arrested. They added that both the accused are around 42 to 43 years old.
Police officials said that the accused have cases of drug peddling against them at Ropar and other police stations.
