Punjab Women Commission chairperson seeks intervention in matrimonial dispute cases for reconciliation

Punjab State Women Rights Commission chairperson on Saturday visited Women Counseling Cell of Patiala and urged Senior Superintendent of Police Patiala to send the deteriorating cases of matrimonial disputes to the women commission for reconciliation.

PATIALA: Punjab State Women Rights Commission chairperson on Saturday visited Women Counseling Cell of Patiala and urged senior superintendent of police Patiala to send the deteriorating cases of matrimonial disputes to the women commission for reconciliation.
Chairperson Manisha Gulati revealed that in last one year the Women Commission of Punjab had resolved around 35 such matrimonial dispute cases that almost reached the courts for divorce or for the filing of FIR against the spouse.
She added that around 10 sub judice cases of divorce were also amicably reconciled.
Gulati claimed that SSP Patiala agreed to the Commisson's request to refer such cases from Patiala women counseling cell that are hopeful to be sorted or reconciled with the intervention of the members of Punjab Women Rights Commission. Manisha Gulati also revealed that in over a year the cases of disputes including matrimonial or domestic violence have jumped from 20 approx to 120 cases approximately.
Gulati appreciated DSP Patiala Women Cell Harbant Kaur for making tireless efforts in reconciling the couples landing in matrimonial disputes and said that Patiala was far better than many other districts of Punjab in getting reconciled the couples that landed in the women cell with matrimonial complaints.
DSP Harbant Kaur said, "Out of 1000 cases related to matrimonial disputes, domestic violence or others in a year, we have got reconciled 640 cases. Nearly half a dozen complaints lodged by women were found to be false."
Meanwhile, Manisha Gulati said that Punjab Women Commission will seek permission from Punjab Cheif Minister to meet the Punjabi girls, especially Sikh women, in Pakistan that are facing harassment or forced conversions.
In order to save Punjabi girls from exploitation and cheating or fraud at the hands of NRI's Gulati said that the commission had prepared a ground report and suggestions for the amendments needs to be done in the present laws of the Central government over marriages. "We will soon meet the Prime Minister over this matter. A report by our commission has been prepared and we would table humble suggestions for the need to amend the existing laws. The intervention of the village Sarpanch and the possession of some important documents of the NRI groom are some of the suggestions being tabled." She added.
