LUDHIANA: The Special Task Force on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a man and a woman with Rs 2.5-crore heroin from Talwandi Kalan village.
Ravi Kumar, 27, and Jyoti Bala, 22, were arrested on a tip off.
“During checking, we found 340gm heroin on Ravi, a truck driver, and 160gm of the drug, Rs 42,000 and an electronic weighing machine in Jyoti’s handbag.
The seizure is worth Rs 2.5-crore in international market,” said Ludhiana STF unit in-charge inspector Harbans Singh.
Ravi started peddling drugs two-and-a-half years ago. “Ravi is the live-in partner of Jyoti’s mother-in-law. Two years ago, Jyoti joined him in the drug business. It is suspected that Jyoti catered to women clients. During interrogation, the duo revealed that they procured heroin from smugglers in Delhi. Most of the times, they went to Delhi together. And if they could not, suppliers would come to Ludhiana to make the delivery. They have clients in and around Ludhiana.” the inspector added.
Both Ravi and Jyoti were residents of Talwandi Kalan village, from where a significant number of drug peddling cases were reported. They were not addicts, but peddled drugs to make easy money, the cop said.
The police are questioning them to find out their links with other peddlers and dealers.
