MADURAI: A total
fine of Rs 78.3 lakh has been collected from people who were not wearing masks in public places in Madurai.
The Madurai district administration has been imposing fine on maskless people in the last two months.
Police personnel, revenue officials, corporation staff, rural police, and flying squads have been deployed to ensure that people wear masks.
As of Wednesday, the city police department has collected the highest amount of fine worth Rs 20.61 lakh from 12,368 people. Rs 10.23 lakh was collected at the town panchayat level from 8358 people.
The lowest fine of Rs 2.97 lakh was collected at the village panchayat level.
In the Madurai Corporation, Rs 12.95 lakh was collected from 8,876 people.
